The Joint Drug and Alcohol Committee enhances the Peer Support Program
Substance use can affect anyone, and often, the signs show up gradually—changes in mood, strained relationships, or difficulties at work. Whether you’re concerned about your own substance use or worried about someone close to you, it’s important to know that you’re not alone—and support is available.
The Joint Drug and Alcohol Committee has recently enhanced the Peer Support Program with additional training and resources to better support staff. This program connects CEU Members with trained peer mentors: compassionate colleagues who understand the unique pressures of our work environment and are here to listen, provide support, and guide you to the right resources.
Currently, there are 9 trained peer mentors available across departments. While they are not counselors, these mentors are trusted team members who offer non-judgmental support and can help connect you with the appropriate professional services.
“The Peer Support Program isn’t about having all the answers—it’s about being there for each other, destigmatizing substance use, and helping people take that important first step toward support,” says Ashley Bjurman, CEU Director and Co-Chair of the joint Alcohol and Drug Committee.
The program is built on the understanding that substance use can be complex and often touches many parts of a person’s life. That’s why we’ve compiled a comprehensive list of support options and resources. All conversations with peer mentors are strictly confidential. Whether you’re unsure about what kind of help you need, or you just want someone to talk to, reaching out to a peer can be a meaningful and low-pressure way to start.

Let’s keep building a workplace culture where reaching out is seen as a sign of strength—and where we continue to support one another with compassion and care.
