FROM THE BULLETIN BOARD

16 Days of Activism

The #16Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is an annual international campaign that runs from November 25th to December 10th. The campaign connects the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (November 25) and International Human Rights Day (December 10) to highlight that gender-based violence is a human rights violation. It calls for action and education to prevent and eliminate violence against women, girls, and 2SLGBTQI+ communities. https://www.canada.ca/en/women-gender-equality/commemorations-celebrations/16-days.html

2025 Bargaining Survey Launching Soon

The Compensation Employees’ Union is preparing for the next round of bargaining and we need to hear from you.

In the next couple of weeks, CEU will launch the 2025 Bargaining Survey. This survey is one of the most important tools we use to understand your priorities at the table – including benefits, workload, health and safety, job security, and other key issues that affect your work and your life.

  • Watch your email for a personalized survey link that will be sent directly to the email address we have on file for you.
  • Make your voice count Please take the time to complete the survey at your earliest convenience. Your input will help guide CEU’s proposals and strengthen our position at the bargaining table.
  • Confidential and secure All responses will be kept confidential and will be used in aggregate to help shape our bargaining priorities.

Your experience, concerns, and ideas matter. When the survey link arrives in your inbox, please complete it and encourage your co-workers to do the same.

Together, we can ensure the 2025 bargaining agenda reflects the real needs of CEU members.

WHAT'S NEW

A Message From Our President

51st Anniversary of the Compensation Employees’ Union

As we proudly celebrate the 51st Anniversary of the Compensation Employees’ Union, we reflect on our deep history of solidarity, collective action, and member-driven advocacy. Since 1973, CEU has stood strong in our mission to protect and advance the rights of compensation employees—and this past year has proven our resilience once again.

One of the year’s defining challenges was the employer’s termination of the Work From Home agreement, contrary to LOU B22 of our Collective Agreement. In response, several grievances were filed, reaffirming our union’s commitment to defending negotiated rights and ensuring members are treated fairly.

Throughout the year, we continued to engage and inform members through a series of impactful Townhalls, including sessions on:
– The employer’s termination of LOU B22
– Extended Benefits entitlements
– Demystifying Article 51
– What the expiration of the Collective Agreement means for us all

We also made strong efforts to engage in leadership development and movement building, with CEU representatives attending several key events:
– Shop Steward Conference
– Strategic Planning Session
– BC Federation of Labour Convention
– Workers’ Compensation Employees Conference (WCD)

We welcomed new leaders with the election of five Directors to the CEU Board: Howard Lin, Colin Holt, Kerry-Ann Herron, Ashley Bjurman, and Linda LaRose. These dedicated individuals will help guide our union into its next chapter. We also held elections for our upcoming Bargaining Committee, and are proud to announce James Morrison, Roberto Agnello, Dean Lailey, and Jeffrey DeCloedt as Members-at-Large.

This year also saw us hit the road with our Road to Solidarity Tour, where we travelled across the province to meet members in person, listen to your concerns, and strengthen the connections that hold our union together.

In our ongoing efforts to support our communities, CEU proudly:
– Sponsored five children to attend Camp Jubilee, offering them a fun and enriching summer experience
– Awarded $10,000 in student bursaries to 14 deserving recipients, helping to support the educational dreams of our members and their families

As we honour our past 51 years, we also look to the future with renewed energy. The heart of our union remains the strength, compassion, and commitment of our members. Thank you for all you do—your participation and solidarity are what drive CEU forward.

Here’s to 51 years of progress—and to building an even stronger future, together.

In solidarity,

Laura Snow
