2026 Bargaining Update

We have now completed 3 weeks of bargaining with the Employer. We are currently focusing on non-monetary issues and non-monetary Collective Agreement language. We are dedicated to the process and are working our way through the items.  Given the fact that we are at the table, we are not permitted to provide any further specific information.  And as everyone can appreciate, strategies need to be held closely to preserve their effectiveness.

With regard to monetary provisions, the BC Government (through the Public Sector Employers’ Council or “PSEC”) has offered a 3% wage increase each year for a four year Collective Agreement term (2025-2029). The first 3% raise will occur retroactively to April 1, 2025, and then on every April 1st thereafter, following ratification.  PSEC is offering additional money to enhance monetary portions of the Collective Agreement to public sector unions. Unfortunately, the money offered isn’t consistent across the bargaining tables and the amount varies significantly. As mentioned in our previous update, we will not accept less money than other public sector unions.  This flies in the face of the Government’s “mandate” concept where all public sector unions receive the same monetary provisions, and moreover, it would serve to undermine our colleagues still at the bargaining table who are fighting for the proper amount.

 Bargaining

 Work At Home Arbitration

We are still waiting for the Arbitrator’s decision on the work at home hearing held over 7 days in December 2025. There is no deadline for the Arbitrator’s decision. Once we receive the decision, we will send an email to all Members on the same day. In the interim, we can only wait.

 Questions

This is understandably a very stressful time for all as we wait for an important Arbitration Award and as we attempt to bargain a fair Collective Agreement for all Members. We appreciate your patience and if you have any questions, please email contactobfsctd-3b4c15@ceu.bc.ca. While we can’t always provide specifics, we will provide you with as much information as possible. Please contact the Union directly for accurate information as rumours and misinformation can easily flourish during stressful times. It is critical we stand together during this time when there are so many undermining factors. Please don’t engage in, or promote, gossip and be assured we are working hard on your behalf.

 In Solidarity,

 Kristy Child and Laura Snow
